Painter Luís da Silva Souto Junior, 43 years old, is from Igarapé Mirim. At the age of 14, he began the practice of lettering, working in the ports of Belém and nearby municipalities. Having been in the craft for three decades, Luis Jr is one of the lettering artists who brings Amazonian vessels to life, keeping alive this traditional knowledge that is so present in the region's culture.
As part of the exhibition, Luís Jr's work features a handmade sign in the typical style of vessels, with the name of the project in front of Salt Port Market.
Luis has a significant production in different media, giving him a unique character. He has perpetuated the tradition of naval typography, reinvented and resignified it through muralism, painting on objects and on boats. He is a versatile artist, with circulation in different contexts.
Guest artist in previous editions, Luis Júnior has contributed to the visuality of the actions proposed in Salt Port, through lettering and workshops for the community.
